Eibhlin Dubh Ni Chonaill and Art O’Laoghaire eloped and married for love in 1767. Art was murdered for refusing to sell his horse for £5 under the Penal Laws. Eibhlin’s Caoineadh/Lament for her dead husband is Heartbreaking – it is one of Ireland’s greatest ever love poems.
