Description
Echo of Le Chéile 2004 – 2008
‘Le Chéile’ was the title of a collaborative project set between Artists from the Leinster Printmaking Studio in Ireland, and The Print Centre in Wrexham Wales, to explore themes of land/language/place/sense of belonging. The project introduced me to two Gaelic words that have no English equivalents that have become central to my work, these are ‘Hiraeth’ in Welsh, which conveys a sense of longing, a yearning for that which is past, missing, or irretrievably lost. The Irish word that is also felt by the heart rather than understood by the intellect is Le Chéile, togetherness.
